GEORGE - The girlfriend of one of the men who died during the building collapse in George said she still had not come to grips with his passing.

Thirty-four people died when an unfinished five-storey building toppled, burying 62 people underneath the rubble more than three weeks ago.

The site has been cleared following an extensive 11-day search and recovery operation.

At least four investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fatal collapse.

A visibly emotional Owenzela Ralarala told Eyewitness News that her boyfriend, Vuyo, had only been working there for a few weeks before the disaster happened.

Before that, he had been sitting at home for two years without a job.

"But when he got the job, he said things will work out fine for us, at least we will have something to look forward to."

Ralarala said that her boyfriend was buried on Saturday and added that she had not received counselling for her traumatic experience.
