CAPE TOWN - With polling stations now open for special votes, the Western Cape’s former premier and ex Cape Town mayor Helen Zille was among those to have cast an early vote on Monday morning.
Zille, who’s the Democratic Alliance's (DA) federal council chairperson, said South Africa was set for a watershed election this week which will end with the downfall of the African National Congress (ANC) as a majority party.
She cast her special vote at Pinelands High School in Cape Town, urging citizens to embrace the opportunity to vote.
"This vote is enormously important because it is likely to be the first time the ANC falls under 50%. And it's entirely predictable that it will never get over 50% ever again. So, it's a watershed election - it's the end of overall majority for the ANC."
Zille said the DA had been making steady progress nationally, and would no doubt win the provincial election in the Western Cape.
