JOHANNESBURG - A major glitch on the Makro app on Saturday night left many South Africans ushering in the new week with high-end products at a fraction of their original price.
At around 9pm, users of the Makro website were met by discounts ranging from 80% off to nearly 99% off a vast range of products.
The dirt-cheap pricing error covered a vast array of products including an Apple MacBook valued at R16,000, which dropped to only R55.50.
A similar story with a Saeco espresso machine, valued at R16,000, was listed for sale for the same amount.
A shopper, who spoke to Eyewitness News on condition of anonymity, quickly seized the opportunity and purchased several of the machines.
"There were hundreds of items. I did not manage to get the MacBook Pros. By the time I figured out that they were online, the app was dropped."
