Elections 2024: SA's intelligence warns social media users to use online platforms responsibly
Giving an update on the security plans for the election season, senior officials said while there are boots on the ground across all provinces, they will also be closely monitoring activities on social media.

JOHANNESBURG - Just three days before South Africans head to the polls, the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has warned social media users to use online platforms responsibly.
Senior officials representing the various security structures gave an update on security plans for the election season in Pretoria on Sunday.

They said while there are boots on the ground across all provinces, they will also be closely monitoring activities on social media.
The NATJOINTS chairperson, Tebello Mosikili, said police will also be ready to respond to any plans of disruptions that may be put on social media.
"We will not tolerate any incitement of violence on any platforms. Our intelligence communities and cybercrime unit are closely monitoring social media users. We are warned not to step out of line."
