CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen has warned supporters that the Western Cape will "break" if they don't elect the party back into power.

Steenhuisen addressed party supporters on Saturday, at the DA's final Western Cape rally before next week's polls.

Scores of DA supporters flocked to Belhar as the party closed its Western Cape campaign.

Provincial and national party leaders have been well received by supporters who came to show support at the Erica Sports Ground.

They could be seen enjoying the entertainment and performances on the stage before the main addresses by party leaders.

Addressing the crowd, Steenhuisen reminded supporters not to split their vote on election day and to vote only for the DA or risk damaging the province.

“The Western Cape works - but the Western Cape can break. It can break on the 29th of May if the voters split their votes and they don't unite behind the DA because let me tell you, the back door will swing open for the EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters].”

Premier Alan Winde also told the supporters that Western Cape was taken from the African National Congress (ANC) in 2009 and the DA has shown that it is possible to build a government that works.
