Earlier in May, the utility wrote to the National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, calling for more police visibility to prevent the ongoing damage to essential infrastructure.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said this had proven to be effective: “The entity's efforts against vandalism and cable theft, and vandalism of electricity infrastructure demonstrate how much more can be done when the utility collaborates with law enforcement, and the community to solve this problem that often leaves residents without power for prolonged periods.”
