About the 2024 Walk the Talk
The 2024 702 Walk-the-Talk will be stage in the Capital City of Tshwane on 28 July 2024 in celebration of the 30 years of Democracy.
Intentionally, the walk commences on Reconciliation Road inside the Freedom Park Heritage site, South Africa’s knowledge centre that seek to deepen the understanding of the nation.
This cultural institution houses a museum and a memorial dedicated to chronicling and honouring the many who contributed to South Africa’s liberation.
It also aims to preserve and narrate the story of the African continent, spanning 3.6 billion years whilst chronicling specifically the South African story, from the dawn of humanity, through pre-colonial, colonial, apartheid history and heritage, to the post-apartheid nation of today.
The walk winds and navigate the city of Tshwane through Madiba Street, the street that was renamed after the passing of Nelson Mandel whose body was transported on the same street to the Union Buildings for public viewing
The walk will finish at the Southern Lawns of the Union Building – the nation’s seat of power previously designed by Hebert Baker in 1910 as a symbol of unity for a divided people.
In recent years it has become the site of Presidential Inaugurations.
