JOHANNESBURG - Pikitup said that its waste collection services had improved significantly on Thursday following a strike by casual workers that brought operations to a standstill.
The waste management company said that several depots affected by the demonstrations were now operational.
Spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi said that the Waterval, Avalon, Southdale, Zondi, Orange Farm, Central Camp, Randburg and Roodepoort depots were now operational.
However, he added that some of the depots were still experiencing some interruptions.
"The Selby depot managed to work last night but is unable to operate today because the striking casual workers are still blockading the entrance. Public order police have been requested to assist in resolving this issue. The Midrand depot is operational today but will not service Diepsloot for safety reasons, and public order police have been engaged to assist in this area as well."
