JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA has given City of Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda seven days to provide proof that they are the driving force behind the recent Pikitup strike.
The party said that if it failed to do so, it would institute legal action against both parties.
On Thursday, Gwamanda released a statement claiming ActionSA was the political force fuelling the strike among Pikitup employees.
Spokesperson for the mayor, Mlimandlela Ndamase, said: "Gwamanda, has identified ActionSA as the political hand behind the destruction caused by Pikitup casual workers in the city and as the party fuelling the wildcat strike that has seen waste collection grind to a halt."
ActionSA spokesperson, Michael Beaumont, said that they had been involved in talks with Pikitup workers, but only after the strike began.
He said that the strike was a result of the City of Johannesburg's failure to appoint Pikitup workers permanently, after promising to do so.
"At the end of the day, this strike is very clearly the product of the failed leadership of a mayor who really remains nothing more than a puppet of parties like the ANC and EFF. ActionSA will be issuing a legal letter to Gwamanda to give him seven days to provide the evidence behind his claims and if he fails to do so, we will be taking legal action."
