CAPE TOWN - ACDP leader, Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, has asked South Africans to rally behind his party if they want live in peace and free from crime.
Meshoe was speaking at one of his election campaign stops in Langa, in Cape Town, on Thursday.
The ACDP contested in the 1994 general elections and won two seats under the newly established National Assembly.
He said that he tried as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the past 30 years to hold the current government accountable for its failures but the Constitution allows the majority party to have the last say.
Meshoe told Eyewitness News that there was no political will by the current government to fight the scourge of crime.
He said that there were enough resources in this country to fight crime in order to create a friendly environment that would attract investors.
"Then even those investors who want to invest, they want to go to a place where they will live in peace, where they won't be robbed. In South Africa today, you have people, business people who have to pay protection fee. Why should businesses pay protection fees?"
Meshoe urged voters not to be misled by politicians who promised them jobs without a clear plan.
He added that the ACDP's plan, if elected into leadership, was to be strict on criminals in order to create a safer environment for all.
