JOHANNESBURG - In the days leading up to his murder, alleged conman and building hijacking kingpin Jonathan Constable issued a series of posts on social media platform X, claiming Hillbrow police were corrupt.
Constable, who was arrested for fraud and theft in relation to building hijackings in Johannesburg’s CBD in 2018, was assassinated on Monday night in Braamfontein.

He was a well-known career conman, previously posing as a Home Affairs official and even a pilot.
In his final days, Constable had taken his fight to the South African Police Service (SAPS), alleging Hillbrow police were involved in corruption regarding hijacked buildings within the inner city.
He had also begun calling out the controversial leader of the African Movement Congress (AMC) and Durban businessman, Roy Moodley, who he claimed was hiring people involved in building hijackings.
Moodley himself is shrouded in controversy, with his security company, Royal Security, being fingered in reports into state capture.
Moodley is also known as a staunch ally of former President Jacob Zuma.
AMC national secretary Thabile Gwabiso told Eyewitness News that Constable managed to swindle about R76,000 from the party in January when he was hired to distribute regalia on behalf of the party across the country.
Gwabiso said that due to the money being given to Constable by one of their members, who has since been demoted, he could not be accused of theft.
