DURBAN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal said it wanted to create a well-resourced police force to curb the alarming crime rate in the province.
The party was campaigning in Durban North communities on Wednesday where it was met with various crime concerns from community members and businesses.
Party premier candidate, Christopher Pappas, has accused the government of failing to end crime.
"The biggest issue that we face here in Reservoir Hills that's coming across is crime. Everywhere we've gone, people have been broken into, whether it is a shop that has been broken into five times in six months or the residents here."
He said that the DA had a solution to fighting crime.
"But there are solutions to that. So, what we are saying is that we want to create a police service, which will be closer to communities to be able to fight back crime - well-resourced and depoliticised."
