ANCYL set to lead march in Soshanguve over high levels of crime

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) is expected to lead a march in Soshanguve on Wednesday morning over the high levels of crime.

Calling for an end to gun violence, supporters are expected to gather at the Soshanguve Giant Stadium.

Last month, popular DJ and musician Peter Mashata was shot and killed in the township after returning from a booking.

Just over a week ago, five-year-old Ditebogo Junior Phalane was gunned down at his home while his father was being highjacked.

On Tuesday, police arrested two more suspects in connection with Phalane's murder, bringing the total number to four.

“Two unlicensed firearms were discovered. One of the firearms is alleged to have been a murder weapon used in Phalane’s murder but that will be confirmed once the firearm has been sent to testing,” said Hawks spokesperson Wendy Nkabi.

The two suspects are expected to appear at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
