CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police commissioner Thembisile Patekile welcomed a 30-year sentence handed down to a man for killing his wife.
In September 2022, he told police she had died following chest pains after excessive drinking.
Police spokesperson, Frederick van Wyk, said he was sentenced in the Caledon Magistrates Court on Monday.
"The investigating officer, Constable Donavan Royston Parang, attended the post-mortem, where it was discovered that the deceased was brutally murdered by a blunt object, which caused trauma and multiple internal injuries.
"The investigating officer followed all leads available, and an eyewitness came forward who shared information which led to the arrest of the 46-year-old man."
