JOHANNESBURG - Alleged Joburg conman and building hijacking kingpin, Jonathan Constable, masqueraded as a member of political party African Movement Congress (AMC).

Constable was shot dead by a number of unknown gunmen in Braamfontein on Monday night.

AMC was founded by controversial Durban businessman, Roy Moodley, linked to state capture scandals.

Constable conned numerous people, including immigrants, over the years, but his most recent stunt saw him making off with more than R70,000 from political party, African Movement Congress.

AMC national secretary, Thabile Gwadiso, said that Constable managed to con money from the party under false pretenses.

This resulted in their treasurer being demoted and forcing the party to issue a statement in February expelling Constable from their ranks, even though he was never a member of the party.

"Somebody gave it to him. He went to that person and I don’t know what he did but he got the money but he didn’t steal it. Stealing it may be the wrong term to use because he went to that person and got the money from someone within the organistation."

Gwadiso said that Constable was hired in January to distribute party regalia around the country but approached the party using the false name of Lani Henry.

He said the party was forced to do damage control and issue a statement in February expelling Constable, although he was never an actual member of the party.
