DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal’s crime prevention and security cluster says police deployment will be bolstered in Nongoma during next week’s polls.
This owing to what’s been described as a rise in political violence in the rural community.
Last July, National Freedom Party (NFP) councillor Ntombenhle Mchunu was shot and killed in her sleep, while her colleague, Mphathiseni Manqele, was shot and wounded the following month.
"This is one area that has of late been experiencing the killing of councillors and leaders. It is one of the declared hotspots among the areas that have been identified as hotspots," said Community Safety MEC, Sipho Hlomuka.
