CAPE TOWN - As the country edges closer to the May 29 polls, more than 650 voting stations countrywide have been identified as hotspots.

This is out of a total of about 23,000 voting stations.

This figure was revealed by the National Joint Operational Structure earlier on Sunday at a media briefing on law enforcement’s state of readiness ahead of elections.

Natjoints co-chair Tebello Mosikili says focus will be given to provinces with a history of disruptions during elections.

However, Mosikili would not be drawn to comment on which provinces this includes.

"When we developed the plan, we looked at the previous, the current intelligence, the climate, the maturity of our electorates, and we plan accordingly. So, I don't want to downplay any of our 9 provinces to say this one is better than the other, but we do have different levels of our focus in those."
