JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng health department said that it has made headway in the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.

Last year, the Health Ombud released a damning report on the ailing state of the hospital.

The Ombud gave the provincial department until March this year to act on recommendations made in the report.

Among some of the recommendations was the permanent appointment of current CEO Arthur Manning, the renewal of its organogram - last updated in 2006, and infrastructure refurbishment.

Spokesperson Motatale Modiba said that the department has established an oversight committee to assess hospitals across the province.
