Voting dress code? Here’s your election day do’s and don’ts

Election day (29 May) is upon us.
Whether you are a first-time voter or a regular at the polls, it is always a good idea to brush up on your voting do’s and don’ts.

The Electoral Commission shares their tips ahead of the elections:
DO:
- Vote in the voting district where you are registered (where you live)
- Bring along your green ID book, temporary ID certificate or smart ID card
- VOTERS can wear party apparel of their respective political parties when voting. Party agents and candidates CAN NOT wear any party apparel within the voting station boundaries or when voting
The IEC warns that anyone barred from voting or entering a voting station because of their clothing should report it immediately to their call centre on 0800 11 8000 or find the area manager of that particular voting station.
DON’T:
- Do not interrupt the work of the voting station staff
- Do not bring any weapons to the voting station
- Do not campaign for your part or candidates within the boundaries of the voting station
- Do not take any photographs or video of marked ballot paper
