JOHANNESBURG - Lobby group Queer Quantity has called on political parties to expand their election campaigns to include issues affecting LGBTQI+ voters.
The organisation, which advocates for the rights of queer communities, hosted an election debate on Friday.
This as the May 29 polls draw closer.
Representatives from the Democratic Alliance (DA), Rise Mzansi, United Democratic Movement (UDM) and African Transformation Movement (ATM) participated in the debate.
Queer Quantity spokesperson, Mpho Buntse, said that while South Africa remained a progressive nation for the queer community, the organisation believes more needs to be done to ensure inclusivity.
“The inclusion of LGTBQI in what we are doing, in our legislatures, in Parliament, remains important to creating laws that are conducive and pro to the LGBT+ community.”
