Liezel Gouws wins SA's 1st medal at Para Athletics World Championships
The 2024 Para Athletics World Championships in Kobe, Japan kicked off on 17 May and runs to the 25th.

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's Liezel Gouws has won Team SA’s first medal at the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championships.
Gouws won a bronze medal in the Women’s 400 m T37 on Friday, with China’s Fenfen Jiang taking the gold medal and Slanova Viktoriia, who ran as a neutral, taking the silver medal.
T37 is for athletes with movement and coordination moderately affected down one side.
Gouws made her international debut in 2013 and went on to break the world record in the 800m T37 women’s competition in 2015 and 2018.
The 2024 Para Athletics World Championships kicked off on 17 May in Kobe, Japan and runs to the 25th.
It will feature 1,000 athletes from more than 100 nations competing across 171 medal events (93 male, 77 female, and one mixed).
