DURBAN - Police in KwaZulu-Natal say they are searching for high-calibre firearms used in cash-in-transit robberies.
Four people linked to the crimes were killed during a shoot-out with police in KwaXimba, near Durban, on Thursday morning.
Officers found three pistols at the scene and they believe there are more outstanding.
Following the shooting, provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said they need to find other guns allegedly used by the group.
“And we know for a fact that we found them here with handguns, which I think is something they use as self-protection unlicensed firearms, of course, but when they commit robberies they use rifles as well. So we are still trying to locate the whereabouts of those rifles.”
Mkhwanazi said he hopes taking down this group will dent the heist robberies in the province.
At the same time, police have shot and killed two other suspects allegedly terrorising the community of Klaarwater in Durban.
