JOHANNESBURG - The trial of former African National Congress (ANC) member of Parliament (MP) Sibusiso Kula, who is accused of murdering his wife, begins in the North West High Court on Monday morning.

Kula is accused of stabbing Jennifer Mohlomi at their marital home in Kanana, in November 2022.

He has since been fired by the ANC, but insists he is not guilty of the crime.

In May 2023, the Orkney Magistrates Court dismissed Kula’s application to have the case against him struck off the roll.

Kula argued the evidence against him was circumstantial at best, as the murder weapon had not been found. However, the State believes it has enough evidence to get a guilty verdict.

The 34-year-old, who was once a rising star within the governing party ranks, will now spend the election period defending himself in court for the murder of his wife.
