Officials confirm George building collapse death toll stands at 16

CAPE TOWN - As rescue and recovery efforts continue into a seventh day, the death toll from the building collapse in George has risen to 16.

Officials in the Western Cape town confirmed the latest fatality on Sunday morning.

At least 81 artisans were on the premises of the unfinished block of flats when it toppled on Monday.

Thirty-six people are still unaccounted for.
