CAPE TOWN - As South Africans gear up for what has been described as a watershed elections, struggle stalwart Allan Boesak said that the cries and suffering of citizens, can no longer be ignored.

Boesak was speaking at a gathering, organised by the Western Cape Provincial Council of Churches in Cape Town on Friday, to discuss the national and provincial elections.

There are only 18 days left before millions of South Africans cast their votes in the upcoming polls.

Boesak said that during visits to several communities in the run up to the elections, people have told him about the pain and misery they are facing.

"The more I heard people, the more they made it clear that they cannot, not for one day longer, continue to suffer the way that they do. The pain and the indignities, the betrayals, have just become too much."
