Be it through her commentary or phenomenal work with women in sports, Kass Naidoo is a household name.
If you didn’t know, at the age of 27, Naidoo became South Africa’s first female cricket commentator.
At the weekend she was honoured for her contributions at the Annual SA Sports Awards with the Minister’s Recognition of Excellence Award by Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa.
Speaking to Robert Marawa on 947, Nadioo says receiving this award has been about accepting her journey.
“I think I’ve been so busy doing what I love and when you do what you love you don’t think about it. This [past] weekend was really just a bit of a reset, like take a moment… [it was] a lovely full circle moment.”

Away from commentating, Naidoo spearheads her organisation, GSports4Girls.
It is aimed at promoting girls and women in sports.
“When I saw it was possible for men, I wanted to make it possible for women. You can’t have one without the other.”

While these are accomplishments that she is proud of, Naidoo admits that juggling work with her personal life is “an extreme sport”.
Sometimes she is away more than she is home with her husband and three children.
“Once I had Daniel [my eldest], I fell in love with motherhood and I am so obsessed with my kids that there are times I turn down cricket tours.”

When she gets called up for work now, they have a “family meeting” to discuss, ensuring that the kids are part of the conversation.
“We either choose or we don’t but my heart is always full whatever the decision is… but it’s hard being a mum.”
