JOHANNESBURG - "Every show is different. We’re hoping that there is magic, there’s fellowship, there’s joy, there’s healing in the room. When you come, come with an open heart so that we can manifest these things."
These are the words of self-proclaimed rebel singer, Thandiswa King "Tha" Mazwai, ahead of the launch of her latest offering, Sanfoka – which she said was a two-year project – at Carnival City on Saturday, 11 May 2022.
She had a sit-down with Eyewitness News on Thursday, a day before the official release of Sankofa.
Sankofa comes from the Twi language of Ghana's Akan tribe and it means reclamation.
According to the pan-Africast, now is the time for Africans to reclaim their place freedom, among other things.
Mazwai shed light on her transcendental performances and how she went about it.
"I really do a lot of praying to ask the guides that, you know, whatever this gift is, wherever it comes from, I say may this gift today do its work.
"When that happens, we’re all served by the gift," she said.
The Sankofa launch will also head to The Playhouse in Durban, and Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.
