With gold prices shooting the lights out, South African consumers are 'rushing to get their hands on gold'.

The South African Gold Coin Exchange says the record prices have resulted in contrary behaviour, with locals being driven in opposite directions.

In our volatile world, gold stands as a safe haven asset that always maintains value says Rael Demby, CEO of the Gold Coin Exchange and The Scoin Shop.

He notes that Krugerrands and gold coins, in particular, offer a hedge against market and global risk.

“There are reasons to feel jittery - geopolitical instability, inflationary concerns, pressure on global financial systems. Local elections are on everyone’s minds... There's a sense of urgency about buying and selling physical gold at the moment.”
"Many people are selling to take advantage of gains, while others are buying Krugerrands and international coins in unprecedented volume."
