JOHANNESBURG - City Power is continuing with efforts to restore electricity to residents in Braamfontein and surrounding areas.
The utility said that this, however, would require the implementation of a load reduction schedule to ensure stability of the system.
Thousands of residents were left in the dark last week when a vandalism incident resulted in an underground fire.
The blaze damaged electricity cables under the M1 bridge.
City Power spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, said that restoring supply needed to be done in a gradual and staggered manner to avoid tripping the system.
"The work of installing new cables on the M1 bridge will admittedly take long given the extent of the damage and the technical complexities required, that’s why the entity continues working hard in exploring some of the underground network."
