JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) veteran Tokyo Sexwale said that the party had to rid itself of bad elements that had gripped it in the past.
Sexwale was in Katlehong on Tuesday, for door-to-door visits and speaking to residents about issues facing their community.
The former Gauteng premier is the latest ANC elder to join the party's election campaign in the battleground province.
Sexwale said that there were many issues facing ordinary South Africans and the ANC was the only party capable of fixing them.
"We are bending our knees in front of our people and we promise them a better life, not just in general because we said so in 1994, but a better life because we want to renew the ANC and reconstruct the country by putting people in power who understand the basic policies of the ANC and people who will be sensitive at local, provincial and national level, to the demands of our people."
