JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg municipality said that it would oppose a court application by Eskom to take it to the Johannesburg High Court over a R1 billion debt it owed to the power utility.
Eskom claims City Power owes it R1 billion, however, the city has hit back, revealing that the utility owes the metro R3.4 billion in overcharges dating back to 2021.
In a statement, the city said that it paid Eskom a billion rand monthly and had entered multiple talks with Eskom to reach an amicable resolution to no avail.
The city said it would be in court on 4 June to oppose the court application, which it said had no basis in facts and law.
