Friedman reports on a 'bizarre' story from the United Kingdom that has resurfaced from 2022 where a driver, Jenniffer Rocha, from a food delivery company called Deliveroo, bit off a customer's thumb and pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm.
The customer, Stephen Jenkinson has been interviewed by media to share his experience as Rocha is set for sentencing on Friday, 10 May 2024.
Jenkinson recalls that he had ordered a pizza from the Deliveroo app on 14 December 2022.
After Rocha arrived at the wrong location, Jenkinson walked down the street to meet her - but forgot to bring his phone.
This caused an argument, as he had needed to give Rocha a delivery code from his phone to get his food. Jenkinson says he touched the side of Rocha's motorcycle helmet when Rocha bit off his thumb 'with force'.
Jenkinson says he had to undergo a 'toe to thumb transplant' which worked and doesn't understand how Rocha can go free or continue working.
The delivery app company says this incident spurred them on to make the app safer for customers by tightening up their security and verification systems of all employees.
