CAPE TOWN - Parliament will hold its last meetings and sittings this week as it prepares to conclude the sixth parliamentary term.

On the agenda, with just two weeks until the term ends, is the consideration of several bills and committee reports.

These include the contentious Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill, which has faced opposition for its provisions on language policy at schools.

Some of the bills still before the legislature have been under consideration for over 10 years.

The National Assembly will also consider and adopt a committee report on the now cancelled South African Airways (SAA)-Takatso deal and calls for further investigation when it considers the report of the Public Enterprises committee on corruption allegations.

The National Assembly and National Council of Provinces will hold plenary sessions to consider bills on Thursday.

These include the Pension Fund Amendment Bill, which will usher in pension reforms like the two-pot retirement system.

National Assembly committees are dealing with 20 bills, including the Protection of State Information Bill or “spy bill” from 2010, which still before the justice committee after more than a decade.
