DURBAN - Bank and phone records have been used as evidence in court to show that slain rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes was followed from the airport on the day he was killed.

AKA was shot and killed in February last year alongside his friend Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane on Durban’s busy Florida road.

Accused number four in the matter Muziwethemba Gwabeni allegedly followed the celebrated artist from the time his plane landed.

Gwabeni is suspected to be the mastermind who organised the alleged hit. He is also accused of being a spotter on the day.

On Friday, during arguments for bail application in the Durban Magistrates Court, State prosecutor advocate Lawrence Gcaba told the court that Gwabeni’s virtual cards showed a payment made at the airport parking.

“At the time, the deceased is leaving the airport, applicant four pays three or four minutes after that for parking lot getting out, with a virtual card.”

He added that a grey BMW used by Gwabeni was spotted on CCTV footage following Forbes’ car.

“The deceased’s vehicle passes that toll, there are two cars behind him and the third car behind him is the same BMW of applicant number four. It goes to Hilton Hotel in Umhlanga - the same BMW is there, you've got the number and everything and the cellphone records show the direction of application number four."

The matter has now been postponed to 15 May for a bail decision.
