CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa said he was confident that the African National Congress (ANC) would get an outright majority, saying workers would get the party over the line.

Ramaphosa also took the time to assure COSATU members and party supporters that their rights would be protected by the ANC, as parties head to elections.

The president said that this year's elections were probably the most important in the country's 30-year-old democracy.
He said there'd been a lot of talk about the ANC losing its majority by political parties.
"[They're] saying that the ANC is going to be below 50%. I want to give them a very clear message. The workers of this country, the people of this country, are not going to allow the ANC to go below 50%."

Ramaphosa said the ANC and its partners were working on an outright majority.
COSATU president, Zingiswa Losi, meanwhile, said workers that today were reaping the fruits of their struggles thanks mainly to the ANC.
