Springbok boss Johan ‘Rassie’ Erasmus has officially received his honorary doctrate.

The 51-year-old was awarded the honour by North-West University today (2 May) in an inauguration ceremony.

NWU says he was recognised for his “innovative and exceptional management” of the Springboks, his high standing in the international rugby coaching arena and his strong drive and focus on diversity and inclusion.

The legendary coach helped lead the national squad to back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories in 2019 and 2023.

“His contributions to South Africa, both as a rugby strategist and as a nation builder, serve as a shining example of what can be achieved when passion, dedication, and visionary leadership come together,” say NWU council chairperson, Bert Sorgdrager.
