CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) Western Cape premier candidate, Alan Winde, said that his party would be investing several billions of rands to help residents escape the first four stages of load shedding in the province.
Winde unpacked the party's pledge to cut load shedding by four levels in the next five years.
The DA's Western Cape premier candidate said that municipalities and the provincial government would spend R7 billion over the next three years to make the province energy-resilient.
Winde said that they were also investing in infrastructure to keep delivering services during load shedding.
He added that they were also delivering load shedding relief packs to vulnerable residents.
"Last year, we already started rolling them out to our gender-based violence shelters, to places where we've got elderly who are at risk. Now they are being delivered in our lower quintile schools because those parents of those learners in our schools aren't putting solar panels on their roofs, and battery systems into their garages. They don't have the income and a way to do that."
