CAPE TOWN - COSATU said that Wednesday's Workers' Day celebrations happening in all provinces will also serve as a rallying point to mobilise workers to come out in their millions on election day and return the African National Congress (ANC) to power.

It said that the over 1 million COSATU members know what the ANC has done for them and it can expect their votes.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will also join the thousands of workers to mark Workers' Day in Cape Town as part of COSATU's celebrations on Wednesday morning.

The event will be addressed by Ramaphosa, COSATU president Zingiswa Losi and other alliance partners.

COSATU said that Wednesday's celebrations will be themed around focusing on mobilising for the ANC's election victory.

Losi said they're not worried about the federation's 1.6 million members and how they will vote because the ANC had done a lot for workers in the last 30 years.

"That is why we are saying it is by what the ANC has done for our people that workers will vote for the ANC. We are not worried, we know COSATU has 1.6 million members."

ANC Western Cape leader, JJ Tyhalisisu, said that they would they have to send a strong message.

"We will show force, we will demonstrate that we are ready to take over the Western Cape."

Alliance partners SANCO and the SACP also pledged their support for the ANC as the 29 May elections approach.
