JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) say it was its member Naledi Chirwa's "personal choice" to work till a day before giving birth.
The party says this is not reflective of the organisation's workplace policies, as it offers paid maternity leave for all its women workers.

On Wednesday, the EFF commemorated Workers' Day at the Temba Stadium, in Hammanskraal.
EFF member of Parliament Chirwa recently made a public apology for missing a parliamentary vote without informing the party's whip.
In her apology, Naledi said she worked a day till her birth date and came back to work one month after giving birth.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Workers' Day rally, EFF leader Julius Malema said he was not aware of this.
"But it's her choice, women decide what they do with their bodies. The next thing I'm going to say is she must go on leave. Why do you force her to go to leave? It's her own body, leave her if she wants to work until the last day."
Chirwa faces little prospect of returning to Parliament after she was placed last in the EFF's candidates list.
