JOHANNESBURG - City of Joburg manager Floyd Brink will have to wait until the end of the week for his day in court.
On Tuesday, the Johannesburg High Court was expected to hear an urgent bid from Brink to stay his looming arrest.
This is pending the outcome of an application to rescind the warrant which followed Brink being found in contempt of a court order barring the city from cutting an electrical imports business’ water.
The matter has now been pushed back to Friday.
The Sheriff moved to effect the warrant at Brink’s Roodepoort home last week.
In the end, though, he was not arrested because of a typo on the warrant - which saw his surname spelt as “Blink”.
And he’s now approached the courts in an effort to stay the warrant, arguing in his papers that there were service issues with the contempt application and that the warrant issued was, in fact, suspended for a year in any case.
The company, Pibir Investments disagrees on both these points.
The matter was meant to be heard on Tuesday, but Pibir’s lawyer, Tanner Coe, said it’s now been pushed back.
"We just met with [the] judge this morning in chambers. The urgent roll is quite full this week so [the] judge has just decided this matter will be heard on Friday morning."
