Clarence Ford speaks with actor Sharlto Copley.
Listen to the interview in the audio below.
The film ‘Boy Kills World’ is set in a dystopian future run by psychotic dictator Hilda Van Der Koy, played by Famke Janssen.
Every year, Hilda holds an event known as The Culling where defiant citizens face off in a televised gladiatorial fight to the death.
The film follows the story of a deaf-mute boy, played by Bill Skarsgård, who vows to avenge the murder of his family.
This is one of the most expensive films to ever shoot in our country and stars our local actor-writer-director Sharlto Copley who plays the role of Glen Van Der Koy.
Copley’s character is one of the villains of the film, and while he does not normally go for these characters, he enjoyed playing someone ‘zany and unhinged.’
“I love doing those crazy characters… there is playfulness to those characters.”
- Sharlto Copley
He describes the movie as intense, chaotic, and completely original.
It was shot in Cape Town and funded by a South African company, for an international audience.
