JOHANNESBURG - The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has emerged as the biggest winner of the recent by-elections.
There were 11 by-elections across six provinces on Wednesday.
Out of the three wards that were up for grabs in the Western Cape, the PA won two and came second in the other one.
The party took Ward 45 Oudtshoorn from the African National Congress (ANC) and Ward 15 Swartland from the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Elections analyst, Wayne Sussman, said the PA has cemented itself as a serious contender in the Western Cape ahead of the general elections.
"So the PA were the big winners, they put out a big exclamation mark and point yesterday [Wednesday] saying they can take votes off the ANC and the DA and they are certainly a force to be reckoned with in the Western Cape elections come May 29, 2024."
