Chef, teacher, dentist, cop, Uber driver... How much jobs pay in South Africa

Kfm Mornings with Darren, Sherlin and Sibs spoke about average salaries in South Africa. They got the lowdown on industry-specific earnings from TikToker @Lifereset_za, Boni Xaba, who reads payslips voluntarily sent to her from people in various job roles.

The average salary in South Africa is R26 894, increasing 1.6% quarter-on-quarter, according to StatsSA.

However, inflation for goods increased by 6.6% quarter-on-quarter while service inflation increased to 4%.

In other words, the gap between salaries and the cost of living is increasing.

To see the discrepancies around what people earn, TikToker @Lifereset_za, Boni Xaba, makes videos of people's salaries in various industries. The salaries read out in Xaba's videos are voluntarily sent to her.

So far, Xaba has discovered what people in various job roles earn (before and after tax) which Darren says is 'fantastic':

• SAPS Constable with four years' experience: Gross salary: R20 532
• Uber Black driver: Gross salary: R66 000
• New car salesman with Matric and five years' experience: Gross salary: R128 000
• Personal assistant in a law firm with Matric: Gross earnings: R53 000
• Government level one teacher with over 20 years' experience: Gross salary: R34 607 (takings after deductions: R20 784)
• Statutory Actuary (the highest-paid job in South Africa): Gross salary: R375 000 (taking post deductions: R149 000)
• Executive chef with 11 years in experience: Gross salary: R20 270
• Government employed dentist: Gross salary: R72 000 (net pay: R42 700)
