JOHANNESBURG - The family of late apartheid activist Oliver Tambo has backed the African National Congress (ANC) to win the upcoming general elections with an outright majority.
The ANC on Wednesday held a wreath-laying ceremony for its longest-serving president OR Tambo.
The event was held in Benoni, the hometown of the struggle stalwart.
The question on everyone’s lips on Wednesday was whether Tambo would be happy with what the ANC government has done over the last 30 years.
Inequality continues to spread, more than 37 million people are living in poverty while South Africa continuously ranks among the highest when it comes to murder and rape.

OR Tambo’s son, Dali Tambo, says the ANC needs more time.
"We are not through with our journey, we need to win this election and be in power for at least another 30 years but we have transformed this country and we must continue to transform it.”
Dali says his father’s vision for the country has not yet been achieved.
