CT police instructor arrested for alleged rape of trainee

CAPE TOWN - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has confirmed the arrest of a police instructor in connection with the alleged rape of a woman police trainee.
It’s alleged that on 31 March, a police instructor at the Philippi Police Training Academy called the woman to his office, where he assaulted her.
IPID said the woman only reported the incident a few days later and the case was handed to the directorate for further investigation.
The accused, who was arrested on Sunday, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday, where the case was postponed to next week for a formal bail application.
IPID’s Pheladi Shuping: "The incident was reported to IPID after preliminary investigations. They arrested the police instructor who appeared in court on Monday. The case was postponed to 2 May for a formal bail application. The instructor will remain in custody until his next appearance."
