CAPE TOWN - The high-profile trial against alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack continued in the Western Cape High Court on Monday with a state witness, known only as Mr A, being cross-examined about his testimony.

MR A testified that he was recruited as a hitman by two of the co-accused in the matter, to commit murders on behalf of Modack.

Modack and 14 other accused face more a hundred charges for their alleged involvement in various crimes, including murder, attempted murder, money laundering and conspiracy to commit murder.

Mr A said he met with Modack and accused three, Ziyad Poole at a petrol station in Stikland. The meeting was said to have happened on 24 August 2019.

The alleged meeting followed the murders of Nico Heerschap and Richard Joseph, murders Mr A admits he committed on behalf of Modack, on instruction from Poole.

Mr A said Modack arrived at the alleged meeting in a white BMW, while Poole was driving a white Volkswagen GTI.

He also testified after Modack left, Poole gave him R3,000 which he alleged was part of his payment for the murders of Heerschap and Joseph.\

Defence attorney for Poole, Nazeer Parker, told the court that his client denies meeting with MR A.
