CAPE TOWN - Police are hunting for a third suspect who may be involved in the shooting of a Kensington police officer.
Two suspects were arrested for the attempted murder early on Monday.
South African Police Service (SAPS) detectives are busy questioning the two suspects to find out why they allegedly attacked the constable.
Police Spokesperson Andrè Traut said the incident happened at about 12.30 on Monday morning.
"Two police constables attached to the Kensington Police Station approached three individuals under suspicious circumstances on the corners of Lugmag Avenue and Drommedaris Road in Ysterplaat for questioning when one fled on foot."
Traut said the suspect then fired shots in the direction of the police officers and wounded the 34-year-old constable.
"He was admitted to a local hospital in a serious condition. Two suspects aged 21 and 26 are detained for further questioning while the third one is yet to be arrested. The circumstances are still under investigation."
