JOHANNESBURG - The lawyer for accused number one in the Senzo Meyiwa trial says he plans to subpoena several prominent figures including Orlando Pirates Chairperson Irvin Khoza.

Thulani Mngomezulu wants Khoza to testify on claims made about him by Meyiwa’s brother Sifiso.

Meyiwa died in October 2014 at the home of his then girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo.

During his cross-examination of one of the investigators Sergeant Batho Mogola, Mngomezulu read a statement that he attributed to Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso.

In it, Sifiso claims Khoza told him the truth about what happened to his brother.

He said they were planning the football star’s funeral when Khoza told him that there were no intruders who murdered Senzo, but he was shot in the crossfire in a fight between Longwe Twala and Zandi Khumalo.

But state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi objected to this questioning, pointing out that Khoza made a statement refuting the brother's claims.

But Mngomezulu said he wants Khoza to come to court and refute the claims under oath.

Mngomezulu also wants the alleged mastermind behind Meyiwa’s murder- Kelly Khumalo and Longwe Twala’s father Chicco, to take the witness stand.
