JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has denied having sleepless nights over its rivals, the uMkhonto weSizwe ahead of the general elections.
The governing party made the comments on the back of the Durban High Court’s decision to dismiss the ANC’s trademark case against the MK party, which former president Jacob Zuma leads.
The ANC wanted the court to stop the MK party from using the name and logo of its armed wing, accusing the party of misappropriation.
In a media briefing on Monday, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula confirmed plans to appeal the judgment.
With 37 days to go to the May 29 polls, Mbalula said the ANC won't be distracted from its game plan.
“Our campaign is not focused on Jacob Zuma. Our campaign is focused on energising our people and accounting to them, giving feedback on what we have done and also taking from them, what they think of us. We are very much focused on that.”
Despite this, Mbalula said the ANC won’t stand back while it’s legacy is tarnished.
“MK is coming in our way, not us coming in their way. It might as well be defined as provocation but it’s a provocation that can’t go unchallenged and that is what is fundamental about this.”
