JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say they are making progress in the murder investigation of popular comedian and DJ, Peter “Mashata” Mabuse.
In the early hours of Sunday Morning Mabuse was shot and killed in what's suspected to be a drive-by shooting.
He just returned home from a performance.
On Monday Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi visited the local police station in Soshanguve before meeting with Mabuse’s family.
Without divulging any details Lesufi said police are making headway in their investigation into the fatal shooting.
“They’ve assured me that they are following strong leads, and they’ll keep us posted and we assured the police that they have all the resources they need to crack the case.”
Lesufi has admitted that there is a serious problem with people being targeted in the province.
“We will not rest until we find out who are the people that are paying the killers.”
When asked about a possible link between Peter “Mashata”s death and that of “DJ Sumbody” and “Vusi Ma R5” - Lesufi said he cannot speculate and will leave the investigations to the police.
